Amy at camp

This past weekend Amy experienced her very first overnight camp! In the days leading up to it she would ask all kinds of questions: how many days to go? Who will be there? What time of day are we leaving? She certainly wasn’t disappointed! Being the youngest child in attendance, Amy didn’t bunk with the other girls, but instead got to sleep with the teenage helpers … which made her feel so important! Held at Kilchzimmer but conducted by the Basel Christian Fellowship Sunday School class, the program was based off of Answers in Genesis VBS kit on space. She enjoyed the music, learned several Bible verses, played lots of games and even got to go shopping at the camp store. We are so grateful to Basel Christian Fellowship for providing this outstanding event. It was certainly one of the highlights of the year for Amy!

Amy and Ashley making modeling look eas

The weather was perfect. Sunshine to warm the colors. A slight breeze to show some movement. Amy and Ashley to pose for a photo. Daddy was there, too, reflecting the light onto the dark side of their faces, and Mommy snapped a few photos to capture the action behind the action. All in a days work for our resident photographer, Tim Shirey, who took a number of photos to get just the right one. And then we got it. The new photo for the updated brochure How is CEF® Reaching Europe’s Children? It was a fun brochure to put together, especially trying new things in InDesign to make it easier to make changes. However, we were lacking that one perfect image to bring readers inside. That’s when I asked Tim if we could stage the photo. As always, he was up to the challenge, and took a situation that I would have thought was “non-photographable” and did a miracle with it. So what is the purpose of the brochure? Simple: to tell others how God is using Child Evangelism Fellowship® in Europe. We use tools like this brochure to encourage those who currently give finances and prayers, and let them know their resources are being used wisely. It also helps those who might be interested in supporting the work to see how CEF is reaching children. There are so many needs CEF has in Europe right now. Workers who need support. Vehicles that need purchased, national offices that need paid for. Children that need reached. We’re thankful for the opportunity to share these things, and are equally happy our little girl was happy to help.

Celebrating …

Amy couldn't wait to get into her new dress

Our little girl turned 6 yesterday. It seems like just yesterday I had tears streaming down my face as the nurse announced “Du hasch eine Meitli”! Amy Elizabeth has turned into quite a bright and entertaining little girl. Always willing to pepper my face with kisses, she shows genuine concern when things are going wrong. When I was laid up in bed just a few weeks ago, she would come into my room every day after getting back from kindergarten to check up on me. On the weekend we asked what she wanted to do for her birthday. “I want to celebrate up at Kilchzimmer and have spaghetti for lunch!” It’s one of her favorite places to come, as it’s always filled with people who show her love. It meant a lot to us that the dining room was decorated and her favorite meal was offered. Lord, I want to thank you for giving Amy life, and for giving us charge over her during her time on earth. She is a blessing.

Pneu…

Last Tuesday, I started feeling pretty bad. Sore throat, coughing, aching and the general blahs. During the week it kept getting worse and I knew I had the flu. Visiting the doctor on Friday, I was given meds and some good advice. Unfortunately, things got worse. After several bouts of dangerously high fever and coughing to where I would give myself a headache, I went to the doctor again. He took x-rays to confirm his fears … pneumonia.
It’s an interesting word when you think of it. Pneu comes from the Greek word “wind”. Air-filled tires are referred to as “pneumatic”. A pneumatic drill uses compressed air to bore its way into the earth. And Acts 2 describes the Holy Spirit descending on the disciples as “a sound like the blowing of a violent wind”. Hence, our term Pneumatology, or the study of the Holy Spirit.
I’m not sure of how long the Lord plans for me to be bedridden, but I’m thankful to have His Word to show me new treasures each day.

Blessings,

-Brent

New wheels

Outside of Kilchzimmer with our new Opel Meriva

We are so thankful for our new vehicle! The Lord blessed us with a 2009 Opel Meriva, which fits our needs perfectly. We are also so grateful that God kept our older car running for so long.

Although it’s 45 minutes away, we’ve continued going to Garage Alouettes ever since we puchased the Astra there in 2003. Owned by a family of believers in Christ, they have been a tremendous blessing to us, giving us a major discount on all work done. We decided we wanted to get our next vehicle through them and when we approached them about a newer vehicle they not only went out of their way to find the right one, they also didn’t make any money on it. Would you please praise God for Garage Alouettes and pray that God would richly bless them?

We also want to thank so many of you who gave sacrificially for us to be able to make this purchase. You are very much appreciated!
